It sounds like there could indeed have been an oops but if you have a tracking number get that taken care of.
It is indeed true it almost always takes longer to get mail to and from any location, even priority.
In our area all mail goes to a sorting facility 60 miles away before it goes on out, even if the mail is to go to the town it was mailed from. We have no real 2-3 day and absolutely no overnight/next day. It's a terrible situation indeed but since almost everyone stopped sending cards and letters...everything collapsed. The postal service mainly delivers junk mail now!
Know the old saying...if you don't use it you lose it...
I also believe in trimming service in some areas...but that's what we have now...we have contract rural carriers who deliver on 2 three day per week routes. Folks we talk to still don't believe we only get mail on Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday. Other routes have Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
As to the hours of operation...in our small town we have the same limited hours of operation. And yes they only have the postmaster and 1 counter person and 1 in-town delivery person so they do shut down for lunch. The opening and closing hours are probably a nationwide deal. I've not seen any post office open before 9 or after 4. Yes, it's hard to deal with but since it's always been that way...folks have to find a way to get there during business hours. It is what it is!
