I belong to a chicken forum. As you may or may not know, baby chickens are shipped from hatcheries by USPS to the buyer. They can survive up to 72 hours after hatching with nothing because they're still living off the absorbed egg yolk.
It is nearly always a heart-stopping wait to see if they get to their destination before they die. Shipped PM, with Tracking, marked "Live Chicks" , "Fragile" and who knows what else, about 1/2 the time buyers are faced with opening up a box of dead/dying chicks. But there is no alternative unless you strictly buy from local breeders.
