A cell phone request

I am one of those like Lanerd above. I have to have full volume and the loudspeaker on to hear any conversation on a cell phone. I have a service connected hearing disability. However, I discourage any all cell phone calls short of an emergency. I prefer text messages. Many times I will get on my bike and ride to a remote spot where I can talk. Sorry to bother you.

Reminds me of our old party line but then if you didn't like the gossip you could hang up.

I don't have the phone on speaker, but I do sometimes have long conversations on the phone, outside my van, in the evenings.

I assumed it was no more annoying than talking to someone who was there in person, by the campfire. But is that wrong?

(I do duck inside my van if I have to give my social security number or comment on a friend's sex life, etc. :D )

Really sorry. But some of us ol folk don't always wear our hearing aids, and even when we do the range generated by the smaller speaker in the cell phone, and even the cordless phone makes conversation muddled. Therefore we choose to use the speaker function which for whatever reason seems to broadcast in a wider range making the speech understandable. If you should be camped near me, and the situation arises, PLEASE just yell out or ask quietly or wave and say "can you turn it down". I assure you I will apologize and either switch over for a while as I walk to a more private place, or go into the rig.
Guess what I'm saying is that many of us have disabilities that are not necessarily apparent, so just a bit of understanding would be appreciated. I'll work with you, please just make me aware of the fact that I am bother you.

And no, I am not a loud talker on a cell phone. I don't even own one.

There are some things I don't appreciate either, but we just learn to cope with it. What's music to one person's ears is nothing but noise to another's.

I usually see old timers with the speakerphone on and with the phone to their ear. I know I'll be there someday. I never correct them.

Aside from an urgent (emergency) situation, there is no good excuse for loud conversations that spill over into your neighbors' camping experience for more than just a moment. Just another way to be inconsiderate like walking through their site..

As a fellow veteran with a service connected hearing disability I can relate to both sides of this discussion. For the record most of the newer hearing aids come with Bluetooth capability where incoming phone conversation comes directly into your hearing aids(assuming you are not a fool that has them and simply does not wear them).

With this feature you can also get a transmitter that will broadcast TV/music directly to your hearing aids eliminating the need for a excessive volume. Your spouse will love this feature more than you will ever know. By hearing clearly through your hearing aids your need/tendency to speak with excessive volume will be greatly reduced.

About the only folks that can truly appreciate the frustration/aggravation of being hearing impaired is the spouse/significant other. It is a handicap and like most handicaps, one that I would not wish on anyone. It is nice when folks cut us a little slack as annoying someone else is simply not what we were intending to do.

Hearing impairment or not.....WHY can't folks just go inside and have a private conversation plus the added benefit of there being less background noise :H
