I'd be surprised if the coupler end of the towbar weighs 50 lbs, that is your tongue weight. Older Smart Cars can be towed four down. 2016 cannot, different transmission.
Some people use a 6810H Aluma trailer (about 550lbs total weight) and put the Smart ForTwo on it <1900 equals about 2400+ and you can put stuff on the trailer too. Tongue weight of about 300 lbs or less and the trailer is useful at home for hauling lawn mower, or any other hauling. Put a hitch on the Smart ForTwo and you can easily move it around while you are on the road. Put a hitch on other vehicles to use the trailer at home.
One enterprising fellow made an aluminum rack to mount on the trailer, drive the Smart on and throw the kayaks or canoes on top.
