My 2 best camping experiences both started out bad and ended up good and I learned about staying at Fairgrounds during off season is a good thing.:C
My first started out as bummer weekend with a breakdown needing mobile repair after a attending a sporting event. I was at an event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in late fall.
They told me there was a CG on the grounds and got me and the MH over there to wait for repair......WOW! The fairgrounds has a CG that has over 1,000 sites. It was completely EMPTY but just me and 2 other RV's! I got the repair done and ended up staying there a week in total serenity. The view of the golden Capital building is spectacular from on top of the hill of the CG.
Second breakdown late at night outside Houston needed a police escort off the highway. I'm following the squad car and he turns into a long dirt road, I'm thinking banjo's and then, voila another fairground! We go deep into the fairgrounds and there on the far end is another CG with a couple of RV's set up. The price? A whole whopping $6.00 per night!
Soooo, I now make a point of staying at the Iowa State Fairgrounds during the late fall as often as I can and I do a search for Fairgrounds versus CG's as I travel. :C
