There should be a big sticker on the dash---DO NOT IDLE!
You would be amazed how little fuel it takes to keep a big diesel idling. Wasted fuel is just not a big deal.
Of course, this is why "warming up the engine" is dumb. At idle, most diesels aren't burning enough fuel to actually warm up the engine. 10-15 seconds to let the oil start pumping and then a few minutes of light load driving out of the park and you are ready to go.
