I always leave the AC on and motor running when I stop or shop in the summer if the labs are along.
On our keyless entry system you cannot lock the doors with the fob if the motor is running, however Toyota provides a bayonet type key in the fob that will lock and unlock the doors with the motor running.
On my TV I have installed a high idle device (set to run the motor at 900 rpm) to insure that all systems are cool.
maybe lucky but I have never been bothered about the sleeping hounds in the cool vehicle in the summer.
