AAA towing insurense.

Just a week abo, I broke down on I95 just north of I26 in my 39 foot motorhome. Mobile service out of Walterboro, SC said that "I should take it to Cummins". Oh-Oh! Eventually, it was discovered that my Cummings lift pump failed - debris, etc., getting past the filter.

So, I called AAA at 9:06 a.m. they sent a "toy" tow truck at 1:15 p.m. who said "I can't tow this". Finally, at 4:30, they sent a real tow truck, McClure's out of Walterboro. apparently, AAA needed special approval to send a "big rig" tow truck,

AAA in South Carolina is very poor! They let us sit on the side of the road for 8 hours because they would not spring for the extra $$ to send a appropriate sized rig. I have been a member of AAA for 40 years. It is incredibly disappointing to have received such poor service,,,,

Based on their service agreement you apparently Either didn’t know or intended to fraudulently obtain the service… you just got away with it…:o

2. AAA service is available to a member who is driving or riding in a qualified vehicle that becomes disabled. The member may be required to present a valid membership card, dues receipt or qualified identification in his/her name at the time AAA service is rendered. (Refer to paragraph 5, 6.)

I drove out to help him with his car, we couldn't get it started, so I called AAA. I explained that to AAA and they were fine with it. CoachNet and Good Sam would would have said, "not your car, not our problem".

On another subject.....on our way home from a trip a couple of weekends ago I saw a flatbed tow truck carrying an older class A motorhome. It surprised me that there would be enough overhead clearance from traffic lights, bridges, etc. for this to be done.

As I mentioned, when I called AAA for clarification, they specifically told me they will NOT tow my truck. Not sure if its because it is a dually, or because its an F450.
Coachnet net said they will tow the truck and the trailer if need be, so they got my check. Hope I never have to test itheir coverage!

Besides the men of steel riding horses of iron (M/Cs) -
there's folks who ride hay burners, rather than gas/diesel burners!

The rationale for excellent *quality* service should be obvious:
Expensive, live animals. Heavy trailers often with living quarters and accommodations for more than one horse & tack.
("Normal" tow operators will *not* tow trailers with horses.)

Haven't been an AMA member since I last raced at Hopetown, but the cost of the AMA m/ship looks like a good "back-up" (secondary) plan"!.:C

Not sure if you are paying an *additional* fee in addition to your membership, but apparently it's included in the AMA membership fee ($49.) if you select auto-renewal of your membership.
Negative = towing limited to 35 miles.

BTW:
Anyone purchasing *ANY* ERS (known in the business as "Motor Clubs"), should keep in mind:
The service you receive is by a local (to the area) Towing Service which contracts with your Motor Club.

Many tow operators contract with *several* Motor Clubs - and you may receive the same tow operator no matter which Club you have.

Also - most have more lucrative contracts in their area which may have priority over Motor Club business..:D

I had AAA when I first got my rig, but switched to Coach-Net a year later. I had a mystery electrical problem in the very beginning with my Class A. Called AAA twice, first time I was in my own area and knew who towed and where to go. AAA did the job. Second time I was out of my home area. AAA was next to worthless, they didn't know where I should go and the tow companies they called, then called me saying they didn't have a rig big enough to tow me. I limped the rig back home and fixed the problem myself.

AAA is setup for the car group, not RV's. I did call Coach-Net once, they weren't that stellar either. YMMV

Not exactly true, they will tow you to the nearest "qualified" repair shop. See my post under tell Marcus for our recent experience with GS.

We had AAA for 34 years which I dropped this last year and went for GS during a sale where I got 2 years for the price of one.

This recent breakdown with car paid for it as it was a 10 mile tow and with the basic AAA they will only go 7 miles.

One big difference between AAA and both GS and Coachnet, one price includes everyone in house! AAA with me, wife, and son was $125 a year without RV or MC coverage. My GS policy covers all 3 of us and ALL vehicles in family, cars, MC's, and RV!

AAA will tow UP to 100 miles MAX or nearest service provider. GS and Coachnet tow to nearest provider or home, no matter the mileage. :B

I don’t know a lot about AAA, but I believe they have about 70 regions and no from what I understand not all are setup to haul large or heavy vehicles or to even do tire service…

I posted this earlier it is straight from a AAA document… apparent they are not equipped to ensure tire service or towing for many vehicles…

I have read many times if you are in another region for some services you might have to pay for them and then seek reimbursement from you home region... but I don't know if that is true or not...

OK you win. I was trying to mislead those who can't read a simple sentence. I apologize to you and all the others who were taken in by my clumsy attempt to misinterpret and denigrate the Good Sam policy. I will try to be more verbose in the future.

By the way "course" is how the word is spelled and "your" is probably the word you were trying to use in your reply. Just trying to be "as thought out and accurate" as possible.
