Abbreviation help

I am relatively new to this forum and I am learning a lot. A separate post referred to a dually truck as having training wheels. I'm going to use that a lot in the future.

I can make out most of the abbreviations but am having trouble with DW and DH. I figure it to be wife and husband but can't place the "D".

Is there a site list that crosses over all the abbreviations?
  • Back in the old days, when we were all on 96 baud modems attached to fence wire, abbreviations were used to make transmissions shorter. Modern texting started that way, before keyboards had more than 10 keys. Now, typing skills are more important than ever. Does anyone else know why we use a qwerty keyboard, or why it was designed??
  • Can you imagine reading a book 20 years from now and what it would look like? Folks won't know how to spell and the grammar would be worse than it is now. Yikes!
  • Both of the above - Missed one used here but not official "TV" as in Tow Vehicle.

(Do not think I have seen it used as Travel Vehicle.)

Here is pretty good listing. I for one don't do the acromyns all that much. Too open for different meanings...

There seemed to be a hugh effort back in the beginning to save space when discussing things so these short words were invented down the road...

Here is a pretty good listing...

  • The list changes daily, and depends on the context of the overall message. or so says the SO.
  • I finally have a couple of them worked out: TT = travel trailer, or was it Thousand Trails. TV = travel vehicle, or was it television.

    BTW, D = dumb ;)
  • The D is for "dear"....usually before any relative such as DS and DD for son and daughter.
