AC unit freezing up.

This is our third weekend using our ac and the other two times it worked great. This time the unit has frozen up twice. We like it cold the first time the ac was on 60 and today it froze up when it was set at 72. I'm I doing something wrong or should I take it in for warranty repair?
  • It is possible that your temp probe that sticks into the evaporator coil fins has come out (pretty common). You need to remove the external AC cover and you will see a wire going to a probe that should be pressed into the fins. This probe tells the compressor to shut off momentarily till temp comes back up.

    Good luck!
  • Have you checked for a dirty a/c filter? and if the coils are clean... sometime its simple stuff...
  • Freeze up is usually low freon or fan not working. If under warranty I would take it in for repair. I had one with a bad control module where fan would shut off when temp reached but compressor stayed on causing a freeze up condition
