Agreed. Since I only drain the water heater when winterizing, I just unscrew the plastic plug and use the wand to flush out the debris and make sure it is good and clean before shutting down for winter. If I drained the water heater more often the valves shown above would certainly be a worthwhile project. I just don't see the need to drain it more than once a year under normal circumstances.
