After the sale issues

I had that happen- retroactively! Ordered a 1987 Ford van new- custom body and towing setup. Ordered the highest fuel capacity I could get- wanted a second tank, but the stated capacity was adequate. Got it. Spent bucks building in the body. Had a recall. Part of the recall reduced the fuel capacity substantially (I don't remember the figures, but IIRC it was something like from 37 gallons to 30 gallons.)

It's not all bad---you got 25 gallons out of a 24 gallon tank.

Also, note the brochure usually has a disclaimer stating that things are subject to change without notice.

I've noticed some manufacturers include the water heater in the 'fresh water capacity'. The water heater does not add to the capacity because the only way to get water out is by putting water in.

When we bought our 2006 Hybrid TT all the brochures and even the web site listed that the hot water heater was DSI (electronic ignition). Unfortunately it did not. There were a lot of people that were expecting a DSI hot water heater that did not get it.

The manufacturer's brochures and the web site had a disclaimer about errors & omissions, so we were out of luck. I found out about it from this message board before we took delivery and knew what to expect.

Kind of off topic, but I figured out the game mfgs play with holding tanks. We have a rather large travel trailer but only a 40 gal fresh tank. It could easily accommodate an 80 or 100 gal tank, which would be nice. I even offered to pay extra to order it with larger tanks. The reason they do this IMO is the keep the Gross Vehicle Weight under a certain limit.

My BIL had a MH that had a much smaller fresh water tank than advertised. he fussed at Red Bay and they shipped a replacement at no charge.

Usually they have a disclaimer in their literature that says. " specifications subject to change without notice"

This kind of thing happens all the time, Now.. Legally, once the dealer has had the RV made (Assuming you bought it new) If you find out the rig is NOT as described in the WRITTEN contract (or in printed ads) you can refuse it and in most cases demand a refund.

If you buy it used.. Generally the rules vary from state to state.

In my case.. I was told I would be getting a Ford V-10 Triton with an Allison Transmission.. (Allisons do not fit well on the Triton, they fit GM engines, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, and a host of others, but not Fords).

I got the Chevy 8.1L Vortec... (Which is the engine I prefer over the Ford so Though I let the salesman know of the error.. I was NOT complaining).

So far I've had one problem with that Vortec (9 years) Rodent damage to ignition primary wiring.... This, of course, is not a brand specific type fault.. Bit of solder and tape and she was good as new (1 hr labor).

I've seen the "less water capacity" thing reported before, though I don't remember that the differences reported were as dramatic as yours. 24 gallons really is a LOT less than 44!

Explanation given is usually that some option requested by the purchaser interfered with installation of the bigger tank. Another, more creative explanation I've seen is that "freshwater capacity" as given in specs often includes the capacity of the water heater as well as the freshwater tank itself.
