I submit such things are tacky, Merriam-Webster agrees. Call it "high tackiness" if you like.
Ostentatious: "flamboyant, flaring, flashy, garish, glitzy, loud, noisy, gaudy, razzle-dazzle, splashy, swank".
We'll just have to agree that it's in bad taste whatever the definition. :)
