Air Conditioner Filters

I have a Dometic/Duo-Therm rooftop, ducted A/C-heat pump. I get SO aggravated at these silly filters that you have to cut to fit inside the return vent! The thin, floppy filter is always getting sucked up into the unit, or is pinched in the grill and sticking out where I can see it, which isn't pretty. Has anyone found an alternative which will prevent unfiltered air from escaping into my coils. I don't mind washing it once a week. But I can never get it back in right when I'm done, so I put off cleaning it longer than I ought to. Any help or advice would be appreciated. My husband suggested cutting a piece of chicken wire and seeing if we could sandwich the filter between it and the grill. That will be my next try if no one has any better suggestions here.

THANKS!!!

Cheryl
  • I also feel that there should be a better way. I get aggravated by washing the filter then waiting for it to dry before putting it back in.......
  • Oh ok, I see the posts you're talking about. I'll try that, too!

    Thanks everyone!
  • Most of the dusted grills have flat posts on the front and rear edges- I don't have one here or I would post a picture.
  • By " tips", do you mean the little clips that you squeeze to open the grill?

  • Four pieces of self adhesive velcro.

One on each end and one on each side
Stick to inside of grill..then seat filter material against the velcro.

    Stays in place.

We buy a bag of filter material then cut up several......change out routinely.
Wash/dry dirty one and then chuck them when they stretch out of shape.
  • Do you use rubber bands between the tips that stick up? Those keep the filters in pretty well.
