air dryers

Just wondering about those electric air dryers, how many of you use them? Do you think they do a good job or just better than nothing and better than the dri z air? I saw 3 brands, Davis, caframo, and iron wave or something like that, all around the 60-70$ area. Would like your 2 cents. Oh, how many do you use? Thanks

This can be confusing. Simply increasing the air temp results in reducing RELATIVE humidity. SPECIFIC humidity remains at the level it was before the temp increase.

  • To dehumidify a trailer, house or any building, water needs to be removed and taken outside. Those gimmicks that absorb a few ounces will do next to nothing when gallons are what is required.
  • Some say they work, some not. I've also seen a light bulb with a tin can chimney on it that reportedly does the same thing. Tried a couple Dri-Z's one winter but they are useless when they freeze solid.

Personally I use a 15 pt dehumidifier and run it when needed but my trailer is only 140 sq'. It does heat up the trailer which can be a hassle when it's warm and sticky out, like last week. Had to run both the A/C and the dehumidifier at the same time.
  • Air dry'rs I had not cheaper to operate.

They go 24/7 and depending on size of RV you need more than 1. Gave mine away after 2 years. Got dehumidifier from ace hardware of all places. I'm on wet side of wa. Dehumidifier doesn't go 24/7 once you get it dried out. I set mine 55-60 %.
  • Useless IMHO. If you really want a dry RV spend a few bucks and buy the biggest dehunidifier you can find. You wont regret it the first time you step into your dry RV and sleep in a DRY bed. A few light bulbs do nothing more than add a bit of heat. What you need is a dry RV.

    Alll, you mean a dehumidifier?
Yes they work extremely well. Just be sure to buy one thay has a hose to drain the condensate water outside.
As far as brand, pick one with the highest capacity and highest rating.
no, I mean the air dryers that are about the size of a dinner plat and about 3 inches tall. They put about the same heat as a 70 watt bulb and some have a very small fan. Of course they are not in the same ballpark as a dehumidifier but MUCH cheaper to run when you are talking about running them all winter long (storage).
