Alternative to the Grapevine LA to Central Valley

We're pretty new to the RV life and planning to go full time next year so we're taking a lot of weekend trips. We're meeting friends in Sonora this weekend and don't want to go the Grapevine. Just cur...

Should be an easy decent at 35 mph in the truckers' lane. Use 2nd gear.
It is just 6% for a few miles... not exactly big time.

You mean 101, Tascadero, 41, Fresno? Easily take twice as long IMO and you will still have a few grades. I would recommend 14, 58, Tehachapi, Bakersfield, 99, Fresno first.
