Am I missing the boat on a tow vehicle?
So we are ready to buy a tow vehicle and I'm tense about buying the wrong one. We have a bumper pull travel trailer. A Keystone Passport touring 2300bh. The dry weight is 4380 and hitch weight is 460....

Do yourself a favor when trying to figure out what you're going to tow, or it could come back to haunt you "down the road", or when towing in the mountains...Please use the trailers GVW... Using Dry weight of a TT/5er is not a realistic way to help figure out what Tow Vehicle one needs...No one tows a TT empty. You'll have full propane tanks, there will be clothes, pot's, pans, outside chairs and on and on and you know how quickly all this can add up....Use the GVW of the TT, "just in case" you load more than what you "think" you will and use GVW to "ball park" tongue weight and then do the math from there.
I saw where you mentioned dogs, (we travel with two boxers), but didn't see anything about children, which if you have children and dog's understand your reasoning for the vehicle you want to get..Would a crew cab, long bed truck work for you? Only asking because again, I saw mention of the dogs and nothing about children..We travel with 2 boxers and they travel in the back area with seat folded up....Anyway, thought I'd toss that one out there.
With a weight distribution hitch some vehicles give a weight to tow with that type hitch figured in...
As also stated, a Van might be something to look at..the E350 is similar to a 1 ton SRW truck as far as suspension...Could be your answer to all you need and would definitely give you room to "move up" to a longer/heavier TT should go that route later....
