Am I thinking right?

Since we have such warm weather here in eastern NC & rain is stopping, next week I am thinking about doing a 3 night trip. I would like my parents to join us but my dad has his camper wnterized.

Am I thinking right? At the campground I would need to drain his lines & turn all valves & fill up hot water heater. On the day we leave turn off hot water heater, run all hot water out of lines, disconnect water, open faucets & remove water heater plug &'drain. Turn all valves & refill with pink stuff.

Does this sound correct?

  • I just use a porta poti in the bathroom and bottles of water for short cold weather trips. I realize this may not work out for you but, I thought I would mention it as a option.

Yup. I winterized at the end of October. Here I sit in Mariana, FL until Saturday morning and then heading back to Indiana. Will need to repeat the entire process again. No biggie. Only takes 15 minutes to do everything once tanks are all drained.

One reason we blow the lines. We have several SP without sewer hook ups, so no need to flush out antifreeze. :)
  • We've done that a few times before. Nothing like a mid-winter unexpected trip to Ocean Lakes! :B

We have the Work & Play for sale so I don't want to touch it right now. But if it sells anytime soon and we get another toy hauler, we'll do just that plan. A mid-winter trip to Ocean Lakes for a new camper's "shakedown" would be just right. :)

We always carry bottled water for drinking and cooking... Just use the water tanks for showers and washing dishes etc...

For those of us with the smaller water systems using the blow-out method is the easiest to do when you need to do quick camping trips late in the seasons...

Just fill the fresh water tank and go...

  • That would be right. Just be sure to run water through the lines to flush out the antifreeze with the water heater bypassed to avoid filling the water heater up with antifreeze. The antifreeze will be very difficult to get out of the water heater otherwise.

    Enjoy!
