About the 1% ... NY has 138,836 cases. Currently 5,489 deaths and many more of those sic will die to add to that total. Do the math 5,489/138,836 = 3.95% at this time are dying from this. I say we stay home and hope it gets better.
After all this thing has been around since November at least.
