The US government does not manufacture and sell products; so why are you surprised by this vaccine being developed by a corporation?
So far there is little evidence of antigenic drift in Coronaviruses (SARS, Mers, Covid-19, etc) and therefore a vaccine won’t be needed to produce antibodies to 40,000 viruses as the case for influenza. This would make the development process easier and shorter than for influenza.
I didn't mean to leave you the impression that I was surprised it was being developed by a private company, I was not. Merely pointing out that it is not being developed by "Dr Fauci's government institute".
