THIS is what it's all about. Flattening the curve to spare the hospitals and therefore more people's lives. We might all get it in the end - but if the contagion can be spread out we will be better off.

Yes, the flattening of the curve is the goal of the stay at home orders and social distancing. And, as you stated, will help us avoid overloading the hospitals all at once. It is probably the right thing to do.

The morbid reality is that it is not intended to stop the virus in it's tracks. Flattening of the curve means dealing with the virus over a longer period of time so that hospitals can deal with the extreme cases so nobody dies just because they could not be treated. Stay at home orders will not eliminate deaths from this virus.

In order to stop the virus in it's tracks far more drastic measures would have to be taken.

I empathize with those that are financially impacted because of all this. It's unfortunate and there is no real upside to this pandemic. But I support many of these closures and quarantine methods because it's obvious some of you are too selfish and ignorant to keep from potentially killing others. You are the reason the government needs to step in. If you don't get it, you don't get it. Thank God we have intelligent scientists and for the most part, responsible state governments to compensate for those people.

The fact that you want to compare covid deaths to those created by the seasonal flu let me know that you don't fully understand what's happening and why the shut down has been put in place. Just for reference thousands don't die overnight from the flu

Honest question for you: Are you trying to make an absurdity on purpose or do you not understand how “the curve” of a pandemic works? The area under the curve isn’t the peak height multiplied by the entire X axis. The instantaneous rate is meaningless as a per year number. Even the experts’ model is only predicting about 60k total by August, where it’s effectively over with.

I hope people don’t really think this is that bad.
