Andersen WDH Experience: Kodiak 242RESL by Mercedes GL450

RESULT: 260 pounds distributed. 140 to Steer axle. 120 to Trailer. GL450SUV has auto-leveling and wheel well heights while towing are the same as are without towing. Sway control appears to be very good.

Thanks to all that provided their thoughts and experience using the Andersen WDH, I bought one to use with my 2010 Mercedes GL450 to pull my new 2013 Kodiak 242RESL. I wanted a WDH that was lighter than a Equal-i-zer or Propride due to the SUV's 600# hitch weight max.

It took me awhile to understand how to use the various values but I think I got it. After installation and hookup with full load I went to a nearby CAT and did three weighs (Everything hitched, Hitched but WD chains off, Car/TV only). That data combined with the Manufacturer sticker values and limits was then used to calc my setup. I've summarized it all in a spreadsheet that is represented in these JPGs

(If you want the actual Excel sheet, let me know). If any of you Tow-techies are reading this, please, please let me have your opinions. I am a spreadsheet nerd, but a towing novice..ha,ha.

This setup towed nicely on our inaugural 75 mile trip though the circumstances were mild. Flat Texas freeway, small breeze not really wind. Sway was almost non-existent. I could feel trucks pass, but it was very mild and definetly not a white knuckle experience.

I've got the Andersen at 7 threads and I had my RV dealer do the spot welds as described in the installation book.
