He DOESN'T live there, he is only there temporarily for work. That is part of the problem as where he actually lives, a block heater is not needed nor used. So he is not used to using one.

It has been decades since I have needed a block heater!!
So I just don't think about it. I have remote start on my truck, so from the comfort of a toasty warm bed, I can start the truck to warm it up!
So used to just getting in and going that I never think about unplugging the thing. Heck, half the time I don't think about plugging it in either....
But the weather here has changed now and we are well above freezing.
