Very true. When I first visited Mammoth Cave over 20 years ago, on one of the tours they would douse the lights and throw a lighted torch up onto a ledge to illustrate how tours were originally done. Now they no longer do that because of the long term environmental impact. It makes sense when you consider how many tours go through there and the long term consequences of what seems like a simple action.
