Any good ideas what to do with old propane bottle?

Get it recertified and keep using it?

The camper next to you with the loud music and the ST tires needs your old propane bottle tied to his rear bumper the night before he leaves the campground. Ha ha...Not really. MitchF150 has the best idea, exchange the old tank for a newer one with at least a little LPG in it.

Take it to Walmart and swap it out. Done it a couple of times. They never check it. Come to think of neither do I. They could have given me an old one back.

Don't know if they still sell them, but I got a kit to turn it into a cylinder for compressed air to top off tires, etc. Threads right on to the filler neck - complete with pressure gauge and airline, air fill chuck and relief valve... ST

I hear an old propane tank makes a pretty good storage tank for compressor air. It sounds difficult to make the connections, though.

Cut the top off, a couple vent holes = portable fire pit!

Google "propane bottle art". I like the one painted to look like a Lego head.

You could try to exchange it at one of those Amerigas or Blue Rhino places... They don't really 'look' too hard at the one you are turning in. I've never had one check the date on them.. I've turned in all my old tanks this way over the last year now.

Just make sure you check the expire date on the one you are getting... I exchanged my 12 year old tank at a 7-eleven and I had to pick though a couple of them before I found one that had at least a 2013 date on it... The first one he pulled out had a date of 2002! The same age as the one I was exchanging!

So, for $24, I got a 2013 tank with a fair amount of gas in it and got rid of my almost expired tank in the process..

I see new tanks in the stores for $30 and then you have to still fill it!
