Any idea for mounting an 11 Lb. LP tank on my popup?

I just bought an 11 Lb. LP tank for a backup to the 20 Lb. tank that is on my popup. Currently there is no room at all on the tongue for anything else, it is a very short tongue and the 20 Lb. tank and Deep Cycle battery take up all of the room. So does anyone have an idea of somewhere else on the camper that I could safely mount the tank with a mounting bracket? Or would it be safe to move the Deep Cycle battery inside the camper then mount the second tank on the tongue? For now I just plan on transporting the 11 Lb. tank somewhere inside the camper, but if possible I'd love to have the storage space for something else.

Thanks!

  • I have 2 20lb tanks and group 31 120ah trolling motor battery on my Jayco 1206. Front bunk uses 4 stabilizer bars. Everything fits like a glove.
  • We used our popup with one 20 pound bottle for 20 years. I worried about running out the first year and a little bit the second but it turned out we could camp for a whole month on one bottle. In those days I could buy by the pound so just topped up for every lengthy trip.
  • If there is no room on the tongue I would recommend to make room by building a platform.

Assuming that is not possible I would have gone with a second 20 pound tank for a direct swap as needed.

Also consider a standard automatic regulator to connect both tanks at the same time. Yes one can sit on the ground while in use. Regulator has a green/red indicator to show a tank is empty. A pointer tells which tank to replace. Very standard RV item when two tanks come OEM. I recommend Cavagna brand (amazon). Get new pigtails also. One to fit existing and a longer one for the portable.
  • I thought about that but my bed won't slide out with the tank in place, it is just a little too tall. I would have to put the tank on the ground before I setup. That wasn't a big deal to me however I like the ability to exchange the 20 Lb. tank if needed. Not as many places will refill tanks, but you can get a 20 Lb. tank exchanged just about anywhere, not so with a 30 Lb.

Seems like the simple solution is to replace the 20 pound tank with a 30 pounder.

    Same footprint, just taller.
