Just had a cylinder recertified not long ago. They need to be recertified after 12 years (as opposed to other answers showing 10 years) at a cost of about $3 or $4. That certification, I believe, is good for a further 5 years, after which it needs to again be recertified. A cylinder can be recertified a total of 3 times.
