On a motor home, Only maintenance is routine inspection and re-filling, If you find rust starting to develop, remove carefully and spray it down with a good rust control paint (I like ACME better than the fish oil based Rust-o-lem.)
(But the guess who I used to work for).
On portable tanks,, See above plus regular re-inspection by a certified re-certifier as needed (The pump jockey at the re-fill station **SHOULD** be able to tell you when they will next need re-cert).. It is a question on a test he took once.
