Having been born and raised in the Florida Panhandle with some distain for "Snowbirds", I now find myself in a peculiar situation. Eighteen years ago we began to slowly progress toward the "upper" South, winding up in the mountains of NC. Last week I bought a property in the Florida Panhandle to park during the colder months. Does this make me a "snowbird", a "half-back", an "almost-back", or maybe a "silver-haired Crackerette"? lizzie

It would mean of coarse that the locals would now have the same distain for you… you gave up you free pass and you don’t get to go past go and collect another…

Is there such a thing as a local Floridian? As in more than three generations? So how many generations were you in Florida prior to moving "up North." Or are you one of those let me in, let me in, close the door I disdain snowbirds types?

@ hoppy poppy - Well that's good of you to know everything and everyone. I get the feeling that you are one of those typical "my town" Alpha Henry's that thinks they own the City, State, whatever. You lump all visitors into one group and look down upon them for pursing their enjoyment of life in "your" town. Then you behave with disgust and disdain towards them. You don't need to remind me to mind my manners, mind yours'. As I'm sure the mods will close this thread soon, I'll leave the last words to you. You seem the type that has to have the last say. Well I drop at least $10,000 in Florida staying one month each year. Multiply that times a few hundred thousand and it has to help the economy.

When I was a kid, "Snowbirds" were people who came down from Birmingham Alabama in the spring to behave badly. The real Snowbirds went further south.

When I went to FL I avoided rush hour like the plague. I went out when there was the least amount of traffic to grocery stores and restaurants.
