April Midwest Blizzard

The frustrating part for me was that I was scheduled to take the trailer in for recall work on Friday (day before the big storm). While the previous snow was about 50% gone from areas, my storage lot couldn't get my trailer out for the tow from White Bear to St. Cloud, due to still big snow piles. Dealer was very accommodating, and rescheduled me for the 23rd. Rumour has it that new work (for them) is now being scheduled out to June. Now have about 15+ inches to deal with. Kinda doubt it will melt in time. So may miss many weeks of the season if I have to reschedule again!

I've been on and off the radar, today. The wierd thing about this storm is that it is slow moving and the snow bands are wrapping around the back of the storm.
SD and ND appear to have just the digging and the melting left. It is still just barely snowing, here in Central MN.

The good news is that the plow guy stopped by. The bad news is that he's probably pissed at me for the early AM call, waking him up. I didn't get the typical A grade plow job. Of course, the stuff is so wet that he may be trying to save his truck and plow. Number #1 Son and I shoveled out part of the street drift, early this AM, the Son doing most of the shoveling. My 4 x 4 truck walked right out of the drive, over the 3' of packed white stuff at the street. Mom's car is sitting in the drive for the duration. We are just keeping warm and hoping for some Sun, tomorrow. The trailer is covered with the whole load, the rock shield on the front leaning precariously. Tomorrow, I'll deal with that.

I'm holed up in the Joplin, MO area attempting to get back to boarder country. Figure my closest chance for a safe run north is maybe next Friday.

Last year I was home at the end of March with green grass. I try to stay a week or two behind the hummingbird migration. Poor little guys must be dying off right now on the forefront.

Must be inland and away from Lake Michigan? Our grass looks about the same as yours but no freezing rain ice on any of the trees that we can see and we have big trees, mostly maples and a few oaks all around us and there are a couple evergreen pines too. Hope your ice doesn't bring your trees down. Maybe just some weak or dead branches might come down and that's not a bad thing either as it makes room for the healthy branches to grow and flourish. Nature at work!

In southern Michigan it is 32 degrees, we have ice on everything, and it is still raining.







Occasional gusty winds have caused some scary sounds. I heard a really loud, sharp cracking sound while I was out taking these pics, but could not determine what it was... Hope everything remains standing.

Here on the Lake Michigan Shoreline in West Michigan straight across the wide lake from Milwaukee WI (approx. 100 miles) it's not that bad at all. Just some wind and a light dusting of snow pellets here early Sunday morning and nothing remotely like what was forecasted to have occurred. Temp is 33 at 11:45 am and rising so any precip will be just rain.

Officially, the weather stations report a total of 1/10 to 6/10ths of an inch of snow is on the ground in our area and the same at our home as of 11am 4/15 here and the temps will be rising to the upper 30s today, so it will melt anyway very soon. 50+ miles to the north of us and roughly 100 miles east of us it's quite a different story.

The odd thing is that up north at the Straits, the Big Mac 5 mile long bridge connecting the L.P to the U.P., and the southern U.P., approx 275 miles north of us, just some wind and no snow fell. However, about 100+ miles to the west of there they got dumped on and with ice also. The cold side of the Great Lakes area in the USA! We feel sorry for the folks in Minnesota etc as they know so well what being real bitterly cold really is!

85 yesterday, 42 today and getting colder.
Winter is not over.

Here on the island our average rain fall is 22" per year this year we have gotten 23" already.
But the tulips are in full bloom. the flowering trees have all lost the pedals and are half way leafed out, and the lilac are showing color.
