Are these legal as a subtitute/replacement?

The law states that safety chains are mandatory and I agree.
I need to extend my safety chains by about 12”, so my question is are safety extension cables such as the Roadmaster legal or do I have to use chains to be within the law?

What are your thoughts?

  • My TT fully loaded is 6817#, I'm not at home to check my TT but if I remember correctly the metal tag on my chains says 7,900# and break away is 1,790# .
  • I see those cables are rated at 8000 pounds. Do you know what your safety chains are rated for? What does your camper weigh?

I used those cables for towing my car behind the motorhome, so 8000 pounds was plenty.
  • What is GVWR of trailer?

    Class 1----------2000#
    Class 2----------3500#
    Class 3----------5000#
Class 4 - The strength rating of each length of safety chain or its equivalent and its attachments shall be equal to or exceed in minimum breaking force the GVWR of the trailer
