Any time you turn more than a minimal amount the hitch slides back. Uphill, downhill or level the cams that make it turn can't tell and so it turns. Hope this helps. I have a 2008 Ram 2500 CTD with 6'4" bed and like not having to worry about clearance. A few extra bucks but peace of mind.
