I hope to own an ISB Sola Basic by mid summer. They are 50 percent of the price and do both buck and boost in multiple steps. You have to know someone who travels to Mexico to get one.
Do you have a link to specs on the Sola ISB Basic? Sounds intriguing but am not planning a trip to Mexico anytime in the near future. Maybe an RV.net member can start a small business shipping these north or maybe you can get a few extras and sell them here. :W
From a purely technical point of view, Sola makes a 5,000 KVA constant voltage transformer with +/- 1 percent regulation that would be terrific. Problem is, it's bulky and weighs 222 lbs. Even worse, it's over $6,000. They make a 3,000 KVA CVT with 3 percent regulation that might work and for a lot less - $3179... Sola HD 63-23-230-8 :R

Gil,
I have the Hughes 30 amp which will allow me to get down to 96 volts. The lowest input I have ever seen was 99 volts. The Franks will operate down to 91 volts and has features that the Hughes does not. So far the Hughes has served me well and I haven't needed anything more. Like anything else, it's just a judgement call.
Will probably get a Hughes. They can be found used for around $200 - $250. Technically may not the better choice, but will make the difference between having power or no power when the voltage is low.
