I made this same setup a month ago and it works great. Bought two lengths of gutter from Lowes and a middle connector for $16.00. Last week took the fiver out for a test pull after adjusting the brakes and remembeed I left the da%& thing on the awnig. Pulled over when I had room to and it was still attached. Drove almost ten miles at 55 before I stopped. Good and cheap idea. Travel on.
