awning shade kit

We have one from Carefree, very easy to use, Just slide it in grovve on awning and stake it to the ground. Maybe takes all of 5 mintures. It great when Sun is blasting you from the south or west in the afternoons. Especialy when your in a open space.

I might know something about those things.



This one is made by Shadepro. We bought it specifically for this CG. We spend about a month there each year and the sun can be be overwhelming at times.

I use a mesh tarp from Harbor Freight and hang it on my awning using the little hanger pictured in another post here, works great lowers the temp under the awning a lot when the sun is on that side of the 5er. :)

rockhillmanor beat me to it. We did the same thing.

We bought the material and made our ( GF did the sewing and designing )shade.

Ended up with a custom size shade for less money than the commercial ones.

Material is easy to work with.

We use ours all the time. It is a Paddy-O Shade from Dometic. Cost around $100.00. Camping World, and most other retailers sell them. We use ours often.

Great for shade and OK for privacy. We ask for end of the row sites when possible as we would rather not have someone's sewer discharge next to our picnic table. The shade makes those open end sites a little more private.

One thing we have noticed however is that we tend to have a lot more conversations when the shade is deployed. Other campers are always dropping by to see how it works, ask questions about it and see how difficult it is to set up.

Maybe the privacy thing is all in our mind. I can say we feel more private as it restricts those people that want to walk by and stare but for those that are friendly it almost seems to be an invitation to stop in. Hard to explain, but it works for us.

I've got one and have only used twice in three years but it nice to have when that is beating down. If also provides some nice privacy too. Easy setup and take down. Only issue I've had is the dogs leash got wrapped up in a gound stake.

Check Amazon I think I paid less than $100 for our 18'.

Those awning shades START at $100.00 and I found the stock ones to be too short and only come in black.

I went to Lowes/Home Depot and bought sun shade material. It comes on a roll buy only what you need. Comes in several real nice lite colors. And black. Light colored ones makes your RV look real nice when in place.

1.Pick up the rubber snap-on grommets that have a hole in it. Or these metal grommets that don't require a tool to put them on.http://www.sew4home.com/tips-resources/sewing-tips-tricks/how-use-snap-grommets

2. Pick up these at any camping store to hang it with. Rubber slides right into your awning and attach your new shade cloth to the hook.

Cut shade cloth to length you want, add grommets, slip in hangers and attach! :C

I also made them for the sides of the awning also.

AND I bought a piece of it in green as long as my MH. I use it instead of those RV mats. Water goes thru it, you don't slip on it. 4 grommets staked to ground. Most important it folds up flat into a 12 in square for storage, can't do that with an RV mat!:W

Ours has a piece that slides into the slot on our awning arm and stays there permanently. The main part zippers to the piece in the awning and then can be staked/bungee corded down.

Here's how it works. First you measure the length of your awning and purchase a shade a similar length or shorter. The awning comes in two pieces. One is the "drop" and the other is the "shade". The "drop" is what slides into your awning arm. It can drop down from your awning rail, typically, 6" to 24", your choice. You make your decision by how tall your awning is when open. If you're awning is 8' off of the ground, when open, you would probably want the 24" drop. That way, you can reach the "drop" to zipper the shade on. Again, the "drop" stays in the slot, even when you roll up your awning.

So, if the awning is 8' tall, the "drop" is 2' long, then you would want a 4'-6' shade. When you buy the shade, you have to make the decisions on the lengths and color you want.

I have experience with mine, But there is many makers of those things. Ours slides into a zipper and that slides into the notch of awning tube. Which I have to stand on up side bucket to get it started, and I'm 6 ft 3 in. But that is because our elec awning tube doesn't come down as far as our old manual. And I don't stake mine to ground. I like little bungee cord in the handle of two 3 gal water bottles. One at each end. Bungee cords give it more flexibility and more protection from wind gusts that are absorbed into bungee cords, and not straining the actual shade or awning. That is up to a certain point. When it's time to roll up the awning also we put up sun shade. As awning will not roll up with sun shade on it. (Someone said on here some time ago that there is one that does roll up with awning, but I've not seen it). Real easy to clean also, just hose off. I don't like folding it up to put it away though. 16 feet long and about 8 ft wide. Leaving us 1 foot at each end to dry out swim suites or bird feeder etc. Came with a carrying case about size of pillow case. I think it is one of these at bottom of page.

If I was looking for one I would walk around campground and see one in real life and then ask the owners what they thought. They all look good in a pic being advertised but in real life some are not so good. We lucked out IMO.
