Vin plate says GAWR front 5200. GAWR rear 5200. I'm assuming that means I have 5200 pound axles? Or would they just be referred to as 5000 pound axles?
When they list 5200 GAWR that refers to the entire running gear can handle 5,200#.
The running gear is made up from 3 main components;
- Axle tubes
- Leaf springs if it has springs
- Wheels and tires
The GAWR uses the lowest rated component to create the rating. All the add on's need to line up too, spring hangers, equalizer etc.
In my case, I had 5,200# axles tubes, 5,000# of leaf spring and 5,080# worth of ST 22575R15 LR D tires. The GAWR sticker stated 5,000# which was driven by the leaf springs.
Since you have a 5,200# GAWR you should have springs and tires & wheels to be able to handle 5,200#. What size and load range tires do you have?
