Bacteria free showers?

Hello everyone. I have had my bladder removed "cancer" and I urinate through a catheter that enters my stomach area through what is called a stoma. I want to rent a class c and am concerned about bacteria that probably will be in the shower water. I have already had 2 infections so I am quite aware of how easy it is to get an infection. Any and all information will be greatly appreciated. Thank-You. Louie

  • +1 on that. It can't hurt, when draining the bleach water, to hose down the shower stall, which will kill any bugs present there.
  • Good morning Louis. Whether you're using a rental RV or even your own, the water tank should sanitized it the first time you use it. I'm attaching a link on how to do it. Although it takes a little bit of time, the peace of mind should be worth it.

A very good friend of mine has a stoma, and he also camps in his RV frequently. He follows this procedure and has never had a problem.

  • My Dad had to use a catheter due to an enlarged prostrate. I know it's different from what you have. He would get Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) every couple of months. I did some research and found that many people were able to prevent infections by using D-Mannose. It is a powder or capsule form derived from birch trees. It's a type of sugar that is not asborbed by your body so diabetics can use it. It prevents the bacteria from attaching so they get flushed out instead of hanging around causing problems.

I would give him 5 capsules a day when I knew he had a UTI coming on. The UTI would go away quickly. And one capsule a day to prevent UTIs. The D-Mannose worked well. I was taking my Dad to the ER about every 3 months due to UTIs. Once I began using the D-Mannose there were no more trips to the ER in over 3 years.

D-Mannose can be found online or at most health or vitamin stores.
