It is possible the dog owners have no idea how the dog acts when they leave. Almost everyone has a phone capable of video recording now. Go stand next to the unit and catch the sound of the dog barking for a few minutes. When they get back invite them over for a drink. Ask them if they know their poor dog barks from the time they leave until they get back. If they give you a strange look like they don't believe it, break out the video.
