BBQ/Grill-Propane or Electric

I have always used a propane BBQ. I have a line going from my MH propane tank to the side of my MH, so all I need to do is to plug my BBQ in, no bottles to deal with. This morning I noticed I also have an electrical outlet close to the BBQ outlet. The thought then occurred to me that maybe I should replace my propane BBQ with an electric grill. I use my BBQ for steaks, burgers and vegetables. What are your thoughts? What am I missing?
  • Y-guy. I would be very interested in how you like that grill/smoker. I'm looking for a compact smoker that fits my full timer lifestyle. Where do I find them ? Cost ?

    Thanks much.

Those look really great but $800+ buys a lot of charcoal! :)
  • It would be like cooking on the George Forman and nothing on that comes out anything like cooking over a flame.

    I'm with the Korbe approach.
  • I dont know about an electric grill, but I like using my big electric griddle for cookin' breakfast outside. I can fit all our breakfast eats on one single, easy to clean surface versus several different pans.

Steaks, chicken, burgers, etc. will all get the propane grill treatment. I wouldn't use electric for them.
  • thanks for the replies. we normally stay at State or County parks which generally have power. it sounds like the consensus appears to be that a propane system would give better results.
  • Pellet grill smokers are the best. You will never go back to propane. No way would I cook on electric grill unless maybe I was 100 years old and just could not pour pellets into the hopper.

Pellets are cheaper than charcoal and lighter fluid as well.

Charcoal at home pellet smoker grill on the road.

    Pogoil.
  • I often use an electric griddle for breakfast which works well enough.
However If on a 30 amp site. The griddle can cause circuit breaker issues.
Not such a big deal for breakfast because it's still early before the temps heat up. However by lunch and dinner practicing energy management might mean cutting off the A/C which would be a big hassle.
Even on 50 amp sites the griddle can occasionally blow a circuit.
LP eliminates any energy management issues.
