Sounds like that cop went waaay overboard and should be taken to task for how he treated her but unlikely. OMG, she looks like such a criminal... :E Many police dept's lately are going out of their way to improve public relations and show that they are friendly and helpful and this sort of thing does not help. The current political climate sure doesn't help.
Despite what you hear nowadays, the vast majority of cops anywhere are great and do their jobs properly but there's always a few bad apples out there. A few CBP officers can be uneccessarily mean and nasty but you won't see them on the Border Security TV show.
I remember the good ol' days when you could cross the border with simply a valid DL and nothing else. No passport or anything else needed and you'd get a "welcome to the US" along with a genuine friendly smile and you could travel anywhere in the US without worries about the authorities. We've had NEXUS cards for 5+ years. Easy entry to the US or for travelling abroad and being a wallet sized card, is always with you. Best ID you can have for lots of other things too like when at a bank for ex. Things are so different nowadays and I blame much of it on the internet and smart phones and them dang Ruskies.
