BE CAREFUL.. Tire pressure monitoring systems.
Getting ready for our trip and decided to check and fill tires in our Jeep (TOAD). A couple tires had lost a couple of pounds so I needed to top them off. I have a TPMS by TST. Have had it for several years and it works pretty good. Went to remove the sensors from the tires on the Jeep to add air and they would not come off. They were frozen on to the valve stems. Apparently, the aluminum sensors screwed on to the valve stems (another type of metal) set up a galvanic corrosion situation. I had to have the valve stems replaced on the tires and have the sensors cut off. There is no possible way to remove two of them for reuse. Was able to chuck two in a vise and use vice grips to unscrew the stem. The threads are full of fine white corrosion. I am now taking the time to remove all 8 on the motor home and reinstall with anti seize compound on the threads. So far three out of my 12 sensors are unusable due to the corrosion. I have not contacted the company yet but I am not real confident that they will help. I am not sure I want to put them back on. Don't want to have to replace all the valve stems on the motor home. Not a very happy camper for sure
I will post a follow up if I get a response from TST.
