Bedslide Anyone?

I just installed a bed slide on my Ram 1500. I have my "on the road gear" packed and ready for our getaway to Arizona this winter.

Well, now, I suppose that it isn't a mod, technically speaking, but I thought I would post the change here and see if anyone else has done this and what experiences you might have had. I ave played with it and it seems to have made things very easy to get to. We have a tonneau cover that folds back, so I'm sure we won't have any big problems. I haven't hooked up the trailer yet, so don't know far I can extend it.

It's heavy, but I haven't noticed any big effect on gas mileage.

Any comments?

Sorry, Mr. Wizard. Thought I was posting in the "mods" subforum, hence my comment about it not really being a mod, per se.

Good to hear that others are finding it useful. The guy who installed it guessed a couple of hundred pounds is its weight, but that wasn't exactly scientific.
  • In 2004, I installed a Weather Guard slide in the bed of my 2005 Chevy 3500 diesel that I use for work. It is loaded to the max and I pull that thing out at least ten times per day. I have never had a problem with it and it shows no signs of wear. The rollers work like they are brand new. I am sure my slide will outlive my truck.

  • We got our Bedslide when we purchased our '04 F150. We use it for our carpentry business inside our cab high shell. No more crawling around to get to forward equipment.
When we camp we still use it to access firewood, generator, bike (mounted to quick release mounts we screw to bedslide), etc.
It's a huge back saver for removing stuff.
  • I have one and am very pleased with it.
I use large tubs from Home Depot and stack them 2 high.
Try to put heaviest items to the front.

  • I have a bed slide in my Ram 3500 and a lockable hard cover (not a shell). It works great. The trucks are built so high now that it is hard to reach over the side to get something out of the bed. The slide removes that problem. It does cause you to lose a little space but I put small things on the side (not on the slide) like Lynx leveler blocks, Roto chocks, etc. I am not able to pull the slide out to the first locking point with the TT hooked up to the truck but I rarely need to do that anyway. I think you'll like it. I do.
  • Don't have one in a pickup bed but I have them in my crossthru basement storage in my Motohome and they are great. I lose a little storage room but it makes access so much better. I think it would be great in a truckbed also.
  • Interesting idea. How much does it weigh as it certainly takes away from your payload capacity?
