Being an amateur handyman makes one popular!

We spent the past 5 days camped at Piney Campground in LBL on Kentucky Lake. Some friends of ours were there in their trailer too.

On Friday night, we grilled steaks and took them to our friends' trailer, where they had the fixings prepared, and ate. After eating, we were sitting around inside their trailer visiting, when there was a horrible wrenching, tearing sound, and the whole trailer shook. Since it had been storming, I thought someone had lost control of their car and slid into the trailer. DW thought a tree had fallen on the trailer.

We ran outside to find that one of the arms of the awning, which was extended, had broken off the side of the trailer. Luckily, a tree had not fallen, the plastic "awning carport foot" had just failed.

While he was not editing his comments, I was examining the damage. The metal awning arm was not damaged, the plastic piece had broken cleanly off. He was planning to borrow a ladder the next day to get up there to cut off the awning so he could remove the hardware. It could not be towed as it was.

That night, when I got back to my MH, I booted up the computer and found I could buy a replacement awning carport foot.

The next AM, I went back over there before he started cutting and told him I could fix it. We drove over to a local RV repair shop to buy the part. The shop had the upper arm bracket, and the lower arm bracket, but did not have the awning carport foot. However, he had recently replaced one of those awnings, and still had the hardware from the other RV. He sold my friend the used awning arm. We drove back to the trailer, and were able to slide the awning arm without the awning carport foot out, and slide the new (used) awning arm in. It worked great. His awning was fixed.
