It is much easier for me to imagine the spare tire and mount rusted/vibrated or just fell off going down the road vs. believing a thief took the time to unbolt the mount from an occupied camper at a CG.
If the tire just fell off how would the OP know? Unless they heard it they would just keep on down the road, which is what I suspect happened.
