Best thing is to know enough to make informed decisions, which is generally more than a scammer. No one else, besides yourself will look out for your best interest.

Glad Amex is not paying. Hopefully you've gotten some good knowledge out of this so it doesn't happen again... either with tires or something else.

I would have done exactly what gbopp did. Of course, hindsight is a wonderful thing.
