This is not funy, but I personaly suffer the loss of my bicyle last night, locked to my motor home with a heavy cable that it was cutted witha bolt cutter at Sam Town RV Park in Vegas, the bad part is that only Security came down and just handed me a form to fill with name and description of the stolen item and that is all, no one else including the ront office or manager showed any consern at all....seems to me that this is a very comon thign to happen here so just becarful......The worst part is that I have a space very open, lighted, neighbors,25 yards from the office, secuerity patrol comes aroud every so offten, so all this means to me that there is no real Security and it is a not safe park to leve your stuff out side of your RV.. all of this is for all of you to be carfull....thigns like this happen every where...

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. And you are right, such things happen everywhere these days, ever since we gave up the death penalty for horse thieving.I went to college in a town where 10 year old kids routinely walked the streets carrying bolt cutters for this very purpose. So I feel your pain, having lost a couple bikes to 'em over the years. But short of sitting out in the moonlight with a shotgun loaded with rock salt, what can you do? Maybe lock the bike INSIDE your rig where it is just damn inconvenient in case YOU have to get out, say, in a fire.(You can't kill 'em, however much you might like to, since bike theft doesn't threaten your own life directly -- but you sure can make 'em wish they were dead with a butt full of rock salt.)

It is a shame, theft is handled as a minor problem yet it truly affects you economically and mentally. Las Vegas is full of lights and glitter, but it also has a huge unemployement problem, a large homeless population, and a large transient population. Guess Sams Town doesn't have security cameras on the RV lot but you might ask if a camera caught someone on the property with your bike...not that seeing a person would help you recover the bike. The problem is that even the best locks only deter dishonest people. If the bike was nice enough and worth the effort a power cutter or bigger bolt cutter makes it history.

So sorry for your loss. When we leave valuables out we also chain them and tie a string of jingle bells around them so if a thief trys to take something there will be lots of noise as a warning to us.

RVmex is a Mexican citizen and former owner of RV parks. He has helped a lot of tourists in Mexico. Fausto speaks English but his best language is Spanish. I think the point he was trying to make is that petty theft can occur both NOB and SOB. Cut him a little slack!Moisheh

From the OP, I read that he kinda wonders 'how can this happen in Las Vegas?' The actual question should be 'how can it not happen in Las Vegas?' LVPD is the most overwhelmed big city PD in the US. 40 years ago I could walk out of the Sands with $30,000 (1972 dollars) in my pockets, and with several buckets of dollar coins in my hands, and walk out to my unlocked car in the parking lot with out a worry. Now every time I goto Vegas, I spend too many hours with PD after I have to do a citizen arrest.

What a coincidence....we stayed a few nights ago next to a couple who just had their TWO bikes stolen chained to their motorhome from Sams Town RV in Vegas! Sounds like a place to stay away from, especially with bikes.

Sorry for your loss. That's why I only bring my 12 year old rusty, junky mountain bike when camping. Will I be upset if someone takes it, yes. I'd be more upset if someone peddled away with my $800 bike though.

One campground I visit one of the most common pass times of the management is viewing videos along with selected members and their kids.

you see, the bicycle racks outside the family center have signs near by warning you are under video survalance, and easily seen camera installations.

Still, they insist on stealing bicycles out of those racks in living color.

If I take the pedals and seat off of my bike and lock the front brake down to the point that the wheel won't turn do you think the bike will be stolen? This is what I do in addition to the normal locking devices.
