Had a bike stolen once, in Mexico. We were on the road heading north, staying at La Pelerico, the big Pemex station at Los Mochis, Our bikes were on the back of the motor home, mine on the outside, with its new rear wheel spokes (an 8 dollar job done in Melaque). It wasn't locked securely, it needed a spacer to make the lock secure. Gone in the morning, but they left one of the two.
On arrival, our traveling partner had suggested to me we tip the security chap who was riding around on a bicycle, and I did this too. The huge lot filled up almost to capacity with trucks during the night, in the morning our friend noticed he had left his key in the door of his 5er. No problem. And I really didn't miss losing the bike and but hoped that the culprit, whoever it was, needed it for a son.
