Biodiesel being used

in Feb of 2013 we stopped at the Flying J on the north side of Houston, TX ....I'd already filled on of the tanks on our '07 Freightliner Sportchassis before I noticed the 20% bio diesel warning label .... I ended up filling both tanks and then took off west toward San Antonio .... I couldn't tell any difference in the sound or performance of truck but it didn't take long to notice the fuel gauge dropping at an unusually fast rate .... bottom line, the truck's mileage dropped 2 mpg and when you aren't getting but 10 mpg to start with, that is a significant difference .... every since then, I don't burn 20% unless I just have to

Waldo, your Dodge will run fine on any blend of BD. But you will need to have on hand a few fuel filters because the BD will clean the gunk from your tank and clog filters for awhile.

Dave HM, I'm betting you never put B100 in your tank. Believe me when I say B100 will clog your filter, unless you for whatever reason had a very clean tank. BD is a very good solvent.

I suppose I should say that when I talk about BD I mean B100. The B20 may not clean out tanks like B100, I don't know. My history is 13 years and some 8,000 gallons of B100.

I owned a trucking co for years..love biodiesel cleaner to run lowers my cost becouse everything stayes cleaner..change oil less often no injecter problems..less problems all around

Our 2012 Dodge dually is only warranted for 5% biodiesel. Why would we use it and void our warranty? We do not buy fuel in IL unless we know what the percentage is. Most of the pumps say 5-20 percent. We just pull out. Thankfully, we have a large after market tank installed so we can be picky about where we buy our fuel. We hope that Dodge comes out with some sort of fix so in an emergency so we can use biodiesel,

Well I will give you the other perspective. My brother manages a large fuel wholesaler/retailer with heavy emphasis on farming and trucking. I asked him this about biodiesel when I first got my Eagle with the old mech. 8.3 Cummins. He laughed and said when they first started selling biodiesel (they even had an investment in a plant) it did not take long before complaints started to coming in about bad fuel from both farmers and truckers. Since they had not had a bad fuel complaint in years they had several analysis done they came back good but the lab did tell them that 10% biodiesel is a great solvent and what they were seeing was the gunk built up in fuel lines and tanks that was being cleaned up and plugging the filters. They even bought cases of filters for common engines and supplied them free to customers for a period of time. Now once the cleansing process was over the problem seemed to be solved and engine use returned to normal.

The upshot was he told me anything over 5% will work but be sure and have filters on hand and don't be surprised when you go through several filter changes. Myself I have avoided using biodeisel so far and will even call ahead on anticipated fuel stops to verify fuel content.

I have a '92 dodge with the cummins diesel. Anyone have any experience running biodiesel with this engine??

Like it or not, the EPA is on a roll for Ethanol and Biodiesel -
with lots of support from the farmers.

There are regulations, State and Federal requiring use of ethanol and biodiesel fuels but it looks like the major incentive is tax breaks for refiners of up to $1.00 per gallon for including renewable fuels in their product. Apparently the Flying J example of providing B20 diesel would net them a 20 cent tax break per gallon.. (B5 would provide a 5cent/gallon tax break)
