I travel to Myrtle Beach across Black Mountain and agree I always got nervous when going up and down the mountain. My old 99 F350 had a serious work out. In Oct 2010 I said that's it and opted for a new 2011 F350 and now I never worry about hills. Braking was a huge improvement also. The old 7.3 trucks will pull and run forever but they will struggle
