Black Mountain is a good 6% for about 5 miles. A 6l Chevy with 4:10 gears of that age was rated at 16K GCW, with the 3:73 only 14K. My guess the OP is likely very close to 15K. So depending on gearing he is doing not bad, or real good. IIRC the 6l I had lost power noticeably with ethanol gas, and with some of the EPA low emission gas. If he had to back out for traffic at any point, well you just won't get it back with the 6l engine. I guessing but I would have expected our 6l to have pulled that grade at about 40mph, but the 3rd gear in the NV4500 may have be better than 2nd in the 4L80s. We ran around 15k with the 4:10 gear.
